Global Navigation and Branding for Modern Site using SharePoint Framework Extensions

Last month at the Microsoft Ignite 2017, SharePoint Framework Extensions became GA. It gave us whole new capabilities how we can customize Modern Team sites and Communication sites.
Even though there are lots of PnP examples on SPFx extensions, while presenting at Office 365 Bootcamp, Melbourne and taking a hands-on lab, I realised not many people are aware of the new capabilities that SPFx extensions provide. One of the burning question we often get from clients, if we can have a custom header, footer and global navigation in the modern sites and the answer is YES.… [Keep reading] “Global Navigation and Branding for Modern Site using SharePoint Framework Extensions”

Using Visual Studio with Github to Test New Azure CLI Features

Following the Azure Managed Kubernetes announcement yesterday, I immediately upgraded my Azure CLI on Windows 10 so I could try it out.
Unfortunately I discovered there was a bug with retrieving credentials for your newly created Kubernetes cluster – the command bombs with the following error:

C:\Users\rafb> az aks get-credentials --resource-group myK8Group --name myCluster
[Errno 13] Permission denied: 'C:\\Users\\rafb\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\tmpn4goit44'
Traceback (most recent call last):

 cmd_result = APPLICATION.execute(args)

[Updated] How are email addresses created for Office 365 Mailboxes?

First published at https://nivleshc.wordpress.com

Background

Over the past few weeks, I have been doing some Cloud-Only Office 365 deployments using Azure AD Connect . As you might imagine, this deployment is abit different to the Hybrid Office 365 deployment.
One of the things that got me thinking was, how are the email addresses created for my Office 365 mailboxes? As I was synchronising objects from my on-premises Active Directory, this question held the answer to what values I needed to change in my on-premises Active Directory user object, to get the desired email addresses populated in the Office 365 mailbox that will be created for it.… [Keep reading] “[Updated] How are email addresses created for Office 365 Mailboxes?”

Validate Your Authoritative Sources – Creating a Fuse for FIM/MIM Import and Sync run cycles

Introduction

The Microsoft Identity Manager Synchronisation Engine has been around for close to 20 years and is highly functional and very reliable.
The Achilles heal though for any IDAM Sync Engine will always be an authoritative source and the information it provides to the Sync Engine.
I’m seeing more and more SaaS services being used as the Authoritative Source for identity management systems. Think Success Factors and Workday. Connecting across the internet to these and the rate of change within organisations means the amount of change data I’m seeing as well as the common human factor of changes en-mass means it is even more important to validate your import feeds before processing through your Sync Engines business logic.… [Keep reading] “Validate Your Authoritative Sources – Creating a Fuse for FIM/MIM Import and Sync run cycles”

Use Azure Hybrid Connections to get on-premises data from SQL to SharePoint Online

HoloLens – Setting up the Development environment

HoloLens is undoubtedly a powerful invention in the field of Mixed reality. Like any other revolutionary inventions, the success of a technology largely depends upon its usability and its ease of adoptability. This is what makes software development kits (SDK) and application programming interfaces (API) associated with a technology super critical. Microsoft has been very smart on this front when it comes to HoloLens. Rather than re-inventing the wheel, they have integrated HoloLens development model with the existing popular gaming platform ‘Unity’ for modelling a Mixed reality application frontend.… [Keep reading] “HoloLens – Setting up the Development environment”
