Lync 2010 DirectAccess Audio Video and Application Sharing Troubleshooting

A customer recently had a problem with Windows 2012 DirectAccess connected clients performing desktop sharing, audio and video conversations with internal clients. DirectAccess is a Windows service that is part of the Remote Access role that allows domain joined clients to access internal resources over the internet as if they were on the LAN. DirectAccess does this by providing seamless VPN connectivity without any user input. Lync can work over DirectAccess (and Lync 2013 works a lot better as it supports IPv6) but because the traffic is encrypted and is real time communication, it is recommended to use the Lync Edge server for connectivity rather than sending the traffic over the DirectAccess VPN.… [Keep reading] “Lync 2010 DirectAccess Audio Video and Application Sharing Troubleshooting”

Updating your AWS bootstrap

In Bootstrapping AWS we looked at what’s required to kick off a brand new installation with your latest build.  But it’s two weeks later now – and you’re about to release version 2 of the application.  Using the Cloud Formation script we created first, it’s actually quite easy.

In the first build script, there was a reference in the CloudFormation Metadata to the website source – being {“Ref” : “BuildNumber”}.

"Parameters" : {
  "BuildNumber" : {
  "Type" : "Number"
  }
}

So the process is as follows.… [Keep reading] “Updating your AWS bootstrap”

PowerShell Deployment of Web Application Proxy and ADFS in Under 10 Minutes

===========================================================================
Updated 10 September 2013: tested with Windows 2012 R2 RTM and the script functions as in R2 Preview. Outlook Anywhere bug in the Preview code has been fixed and Outlook now works with RTM. Updated the script to correct Autodiscover ExternalURL
===========================================================================

In this post I will be discussing deploying a highly available Windows 2012 R2 Preview ADFS and Web Application Proxy solution using only PowerShell. This was done as a proof of concept to compare the time taken as well as complexity to build and configure a Reverse Proxy solution to replace a UAG 2010 array.… [Keep reading] “PowerShell Deployment of Web Application Proxy and ADFS in Under 10 Minutes”

Autodiscover Troubleshooting

Notes from the Field

I have been onsite working on remediating a partially completed Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 migration. This environment was then configured for Exchange Online Hybrid using ADFS 2.0 and Dirsync.

After reviewing the Autodiscover configuration, I discovered that something wasn’t right. In addition to this, I had received the following issues list from the customer.

Symptoms

  1. Outlook for Office 365 mailboxes is not able to be configured using Autodiscover. This occurred on both domain and non-domain joined machines.

Wave 15 Shared Mailboxes in a Hybrid Configuration

Notes from the Field

I have been working on a customer site for some time now and have recently been migrated to Wave 15 of Exchange Online.

It was brought to my attention during the week, that since the migration, Shared Mailboxes which were created via the Exchange Online EAC could not receive external email. Shared mailboxes which were created in the on-premise environment and then migrated to Exchange Online are working as expected.

Note: The support staff have already created the Shared mailboxes using the Exchange online EAC and these mailboxes already have significant amounts of mail contained within.[Keep reading] “Wave 15 Shared Mailboxes in a Hybrid Configuration”

Bootstrapping on AWS

The Task

This post is going to look at the process of hosting a highly available corporate website using Windows Server 2012 Amazon Machine Image (AMI), and bootstrapping the installation of Internet Information Services (IIS), urlrewrite, and our website. We don’t need a golden image as we release software every week. We also want to make sure that it is a high availability solution, so we need to look at scaling groups and repeatability.

Our high availability solution will contain one load balancer, and a minimum of two Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances across multiple availability zones (AZ’s).  … [Keep reading] “Bootstrapping on AWS”
